FREDERICK VON COLLN JR., 90

Frederick Von Colln Jr., “Fritz,” 90 years old of West Cape May, N.J., passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Friday, Sept. 12, 2025.

Fritz was born Dec. 12, 1934, in Wildwood, N.J., and was a lifelong resident of Cape May. Fritz attended both elementary and secondary school in Cape May. 

He later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served his country and earned his GED. 

Fritz was President of the Steelworkers Union and Chief Negotiator of Contracts at the Magnesite Plant until it closed. He then moved to employment in the traffic light department of Cape May County. 

Fritz also devoted considerable time coaching both boys baseball and girls softball at the Cape May Little League field, which brought him much joy.

Fritz is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Connie Von Colln (nee Harrigan), and his children Mark (Heather) Von Colln and Heidi Von Colln-Hunter (Shawn), and his beloved grandchildren, Eric and Brielle Von Colln and Sydnie and Kendall Hunter. 

Fritz is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ann Von Colln, his sister Susan Sowers and many other loving family members and friends.

A private gathering will be held for close family and friends to celebrate Fritz’s life at a later date. 

Donations in his honor can be made to the Cape May County Animal Welfare Society.
