CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — The Cape May County Board of County Commissioners on Sept. 8 authorized contract documents and advertisement for bids for two county resurfacing projects: Phase 3 of Seashore Road (CR 626) in Lower Township and Shunpike Road (CR 620) in Middle Township.
Seashore Road is a major north–south connector serving neighborhoods, businesses and year-round traffic in Lower Township.
The corridor is being improved in three phases. Phase 1, from Route 47 to Breakwater Road (CR 613), is complete. Phase 2, from Breakwater Road to Tabernacle Road (CR 647), has been awarded, with construction scheduled to begin in the next few months. The project is receiving federal construction funds.
Shunpike Road serves residential neighborhoods, Middle Township school recreation fields, seasonal campgrounds and connections to the county bike-path network.
Planned work includes milling and paving and drainage improvements to reduce water spreading onto the roadway during rain events.
“Authorizing bids for Seashore Road Phase 3 and Shunpike Road keeps two important county corridor improvement projects moving,” Board of Commissioners Director Leonard C. Desiderio said. “These projects will improve safety, pavement condition and drainage for the residents, businesses and visitors who rely on these roads every day.”
