Cape May County Democrats endorse Mullock in congressional race

CAPE MAY — The Cape May County Regular Democratic Organization has endorsed Cape May Mayor Zack Mullock in his bid to unseat U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew, R-2nd.

Mullock joins four other Democrats in the primary — Tim Alexander, Terri Reese, Bayly Winder and Bill Finn — which is set for June 2. The deadline to file a petition is March 23.

Calling Van Drew “destructive,” a news release announcing the endorsement stated the Republican congressman “has voted against our community and our coastline countless times.”

“Cape May County residents are excited about the future with Mayor Mullock in this primary race,” said Marie Blistan, chair of the organization. “Zack Mullock has had exemplary accomplishments as a councilman and then the mayor since 2018. Without raising taxes, he has made significant improvements in Cape May City, an internationally known vacation destination city.”

Blistan said Mullock has put people over politics and has garnered respect and support from the community across all party lines.

“We look forward to helping him win the primary, winning the election and having Cape May County Congressman Zack Mulloch restore integrity back into that federal office,” Blisan said.

During his six years as mayor, Mullock has led the city to build a new firehouse and library and hired new police officers and firefighters. In addition, a new police headquarters is under construction and a major rehabilitation of the Promenade is expected to be complete before summer.
