Awkward intersection getting crosswalk

WEST CAPE MAY —Borough Commission has plans to improve safety for pedestrians starting this summer.

Commissioners passed a resolution April 23 approving installation of a crosswalk at the intersection of Stevens Street and Sea Grove Avenue with Sunset Boulevard.

“It’s a pretty dangerous crossing area,” Deputy Mayor George Dick said. “It’s a pretty odd intersection because the streets don’t line up perfectly. We think it’s going to slow down traffic as well.”

He said commissioners have received many calls about intersections, and there are new plans to develop those along Broadway.

Commissioners also revisited an ordinance regarding special events hosted at Borough Hall. The ordinance was introduced at the beginning of the year and the board has been working on clarifying the wording and ensuring it accurately represents West Cape May’s needs.

“We’ve been looking at some modifications to language changes,” Mayor Carol Sabo said. “I think we’re still coming to a consensus.”

Dick said he has a list of comments and suggestions he still needs to go over.

“I think we’ve had a lot of discussions,” Dick said. “Every time, we open new thoughts in making sure we aren’t overstepping and are protecting the borough and our constituents.”

In other news, Sabo proclaimed that May 1 is Loyalty Day.

“We hereby call on all of our fellow citizens to take full advantage of the day known as Loyalty Day, celebrated annually throughout the nation on the first day of May as an incentive for every true American to reaffirm their love of flag and country,” Sabo said.
