Lower police arrest man in Villas stabbing

VILLAS — The Lower Township Police Department arrested Whitesboro resident Sidney Gary, 42, on Aug. 6 in connection with a stabbing in Villas.

According to authorities, officers responded to the 200 block of East Delaware Parkway for a reported stabbing. The victim had suffered significant injury to his hand as a result of an apparent assault with a knife. The 23-year-old Villas man was transported to Cooper Cape Regional for treatment of his injuries, which were non-life threatening.

Responding officers determined that the victim had fled the scene of the assault, which had occurred in the 300 block of East Pacific Avenue. Officers located several witnesses to the altercation. Investigation conducted by members of the Lower Township Detective Bureau determined that the victim was attacked by the accused after arriving at a third-party residence, authorities said. The altercation continued into the street, where the accused brandished a knife and stabbed the victim. The accused then fled the scene prior to the arrival of police.

Through the continued investigation, the accused was identified and Gary was charged with aggravated assault causing significant bodily injury, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon. With the assistance of the Middle Township Police Department, Gary was located at his residence and taken into police custody before being lodged at the Cape May County Jail. The matter is pending court proceedings.
