Habitat for Humanity raises new homes in West Cape May

WEST CAPE MAY — A significant step forward in addressing local housing needs took place last week as two new single-family homes were erected in West Cape May.

The homes were delivered and set on site via crane, marking a visible milestone for the community.

According to a news release from the organization, the moment reflects a broader initiative to create attainable housing opportunities through a combination of municipal leadership and strategic private partnerships.

By aligning local expertise, public support and mission-driven development, the project demonstrates what is possible when communities proactively respond to housing challenges.

“This is an exciting and tangible milestone,” said David DeTorre, Habitat for Humanity of Cape May County Construction Committee chair. “Seeing these homes arrive and be set in place is a powerful reminder of what collaboration and shared purpose can achieve.”

“This project is a testament to what can happen when a community comes together with a shared commitment to housing opportunity,” said Sarah Mathews, Habitat for Humanity of Cape May County board member. “From municipal leadership to local contractors and volunteers, this effort reflects the strength and generosity of West Cape May.”

The two homes, located on Willow Avenue, are being constructed using modular components to increase efficiency and accelerate timelines. While the modular units are fabricated off-site, the project remains deeply rooted in the local economy.

All site work, infrastructure and professional services are being carried out by local contractors, tradespeople and consultants, ensuring that investment stays within the community.

Applications for prospective homeowners are now open and accessible through the Habitat for Humanity of Cape May County website. Interested applicants are encouraged to review eligibility requirements and submit an application online.

“As the homes are set and construction progresses toward completion, this project stands as a model for how thoughtful planning, strong partnerships and local engagement can come together to deliver meaningful and lasting impact,” DeTorre said.
