SISTER KATHRYN McTAGUE, 92

Sister Kathryn McTague SSJ, formerly Sister Edward Angela, lovingly known as Sister Kay, passed peacefully on March 30, 2026, at age 92.

Sister Kay began her ministry as an educator in parishes in Philadelphia, Bethlehem and Allentown, Pa., and Bayonne, N.J. More recently, she taught at Saint Joseph Regional School in Somers Point, N.J., and was principal at Blessed Sacrament School in Margate, N.J.

From 2004-2014, Sister Kay served as a spiritual advisor for patients and staff at Cape Regional Medical Center in Cape May Court House, N.J., where she was also a valued member of the trauma response team. A firm believer in “pay it forward,” she comforted many in their times of need.

If you knew Sister Kay, you knew her vibrant personality, her enthusiasm for travel and her deep love for her Maine Coon cats that brought her great comfort and joy, particularly in her last illness.

Sister Kay’s devout faith permeated her life. She would often end a visit or call with one of her Sister Kay sayings: “People say have a nice day, I say spread it out, have a nice life,” “We may not have it all together, but together we have it all” and “God bless you and all those you love” among them. Her faith shaped her view of death, as well, which she saw as a transition that would bring her closer to God.

She was preceded in death by parents Edward and Frances (née Thornton) McTague, brother Daniel McTague, sister Angela Glazer, brother-in-law Tony Glazer and nephew Tony Glazer.

She is survived by her niece and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephew, and members of her congregation, the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia.

Sister Kay often expressed her gratitude for the help that she received from Heartland Hospice, Cape May City police and EMTs, Operation Reassurance, Meals on Wheels and the dear friends who kept in contact with her not just over the years but also in her final months.

A memorial Mass is scheduled to be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. May 18 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Cape May, N.J., Sister Kay’s parish. A funeral Mass was celebrated April 9 at Saint Joseph Villa in Flourtown, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions are suggested in Sister Kay’s name to The Branches Outreach in Rio Grande, N.J., or Saint Joseph Villa in Flourtown, Pa.
