Lower Cape May Regional girls fall behind Mainland, can’t catch up on Mustang court
LINWOOD — The Lower Cape May Regional High School girls basketball team couldn’t find the range in the first half of their game against Mainland Regional High School on Jan. 10, but had a much better showing in the second half.
The girls managed only three points per quarter in the first half, falling behind the 6-4 Mustangs 26-6, but were able to even things out in the second half, trailing only 11-10 in the third quarter and staying even with Mainland 10-10 in the fourth.
Not one Caper Tiger got into double digits, but the team got baskets from eight different players.
Meredith Lutjen and Raegan Notch had five points each, Ainsley Reed and Brooke Robison had four apiece, and Leks Domanowski, Savannah Wareham and Aubrey Gamble each had two.
The LCMR girls are 2-5 so far this season, losing the past five games, but had a good performance against the 6-3 Ocean City High School Red Raiders, who lead the National Division. The Caper Tigers lost 46-41 but kept the game close throughout.
Wareham led the team with 12 points in the game and Robinson had 11. The girls trailed 18-15 at halftime, but couldn’t quite make up the deficit in the second half, with Ocean City just outscoring them 28-25.
Domanowski and Lutjen had six points each and Reed and Gamble three apiece.
LCMR was hosting 9-0 Hammonton on Monday night then will host Vineland (2-6) at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14.
