Caper Tiger boys, girls compete at county XC championships

WILDWOOD — Caper Tiger seniors Jenna Hill and Hannah Souder and sophomore Chris Saini finished in the top 15 in their races during the 2025 Cape May County Cross Country Championships on the boardwalk in Wildwood.

On a warm, sunny afternoon, the Lower Cape May Regional High School girls and boys competed in the annual meet which begins the championship season in cross country.

Hill finished 13th with a time of 23 minutes and Souder was right behind her in 23:01.21.

Ocean City’s Riley Tolson, a sophomore, won the girls race with her time of 18:49.84 and Ocean City as a team finished first, placing its seven girls in the top eight spots.

Fellow Caper Tiger runners competing were freshman Abigail Simpkins, junior Grace Hood, senior Victoria Barnes and junior Katarina Ojasoo.

Overall the girls finished fourth as a team with 102 points. Ocean City was first with 17, Middle Township second with 61 and Wildwood Catholic third with 80. Cape May County Tech was fifth with 115 points.

On the boys side, Saini was 12th with his time of 18:38.15.

Ocean City senior Erik Preisner won the race in 16:05.53 and the OCHS boys swept the top three spots and seven of the top eight spots en route to a first-place team victory. They scored 17 points, their ranks broken up only by Middle Township’s Jamar Mack, who was fourth in 16:14.81.

Other Cape Tiger boys competing were sophomore Mike DiVito, senior Lennon O’Donnell, sophomore Giacomo Ruff, junior Matthew Caballero and freshmen Peter Hood and Nolan Medford.

Middle Township’s team was second with 51 points, Cape May County Tech third with 86 and LCMR fourth with 102 points.

Next up was the Cape-Atlantic League Cross Country Championships, which were scheduled for Tuesday at Egg Harbor Township High School. 

The Caper Tiger boys and girls are coached by Syd Peterkin.
