Cheryl L. Kurtz (nee Pooley) of Cape May Point and Burlington, N.J., and Hanover, Pa., passed away Aug. 20, 2026, after a courageous battle with glioblastoma. She was 79.
Cheryl was the loving wife of Franklin A. Kurtz Sr., with whom she had shared 54 years of marriage until his passing in 2022. Prior to moving to Hanover, Cheryl was an active member of Cape May Methodist Church, a Trustee of Beadle Memorial Presbyterian Church and a member of the Angelus Chorus.
Cheryl is survived by son Brian Kurtz Sr. of Westover, Md.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters Susanne Miller (Alan) of Hanover, Pa., Valerie Center (Brad) of Alexandria, Va.; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was predeceased by her parents Dellmont Pooley Sr., Rita Hauser and Eldon Hauser; son Franklin Kurtz Jr.; sister Pam Cook and brother Dellmont Pooley Jr.
Cheryl is also survived by her devoted brother- and sisters-in-law Robert R. Kurtz (Cape May Point) and Marilyn Brecht (Fred Repetsky) and Victoria Coleman (Montgomery County Pa.), who knew and loved Cheryl from the time she started dating Frank.
A service was held in Hanover, Pa., at First Church of Hanover, where Cheryl had become an active member after her move from Cape May Point.
There will also be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Nov. 14 at Cape May Methodist Church, 635 Washington St. in Cape May. Luncheon and greeting to follow.
